Wewathenna is a camping site which is situated in Kandy. The route to this place is not an easy one and requires the help of locals in the area.

From Kandy travel along the Kandy-Mahiyangane-Padiyatalawa Highway passing Tennekumbura, Balagolla, Digana, Teldeniya and Rambukwella up to Medamahanuwara to reach the Wewathenna which is situated along Wewathenna Road in Rajagala.

Then from there another one hour to the top. The road to take is the Kandy — Mahiyangana highway. And you have to pass Theldeniya, Karalliyadda, Rambukwella, Wegala, and turn to Rajagala Road from Meda Mahanuwara.

This is one of the hardest roads I’ve taken to reach a place. And in some places we had to be very careful not to topple our bikes. And I recommend you take your own bike other than riding with a passenger. Because at some point, it’s impossible to pass some more difficult places with a passenger on. Always be very careful since there’re no guard rails to protect you from falling off from the cliff either to your left or right.
